COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is designed for individuals who are interested in obtaining the API 653 certification or who want to expand their knowledge and skills in the field of aboveground storage tank systems.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
The course is suitable for inspection personnel who are responsible for conducting aboveground storage tank inspections and evaluations . Engineers who are involved in the design , construction , repair , alteration and maintenance of aboveground storage tank systems. Managers and supervisors who oversee the operation and maintenance of aboveground storage tank facilities. Regulators who are responsible for enforcing compliance with the aboveground storage tank regulations and standards and anyone who is interested in learning more about the Aboveground storage tank systems and the API 653 standard .
COURSE OBJECTIVE
The course provides participants with the necessary knowledge to successfully pass the API 653 storage tank inspector certification exam .
- Understand the API 653 Standard and its application to inspection , repair , alternation and reconstruction of aboveground storage tanks .
- Identify the scope of the API 653 standard , inspection process , the terminology and definitions used in the standard .
- Understand the design , materials , construction and inspection requirements and procedures for aboveground storage tanks .
- Learn about non-destructive testing (NDT) methods .
- Understand corrosion mechanisms and prevention methods and how to detect and monitor corrosion in aboveground storage tanks.
- Understand hydrostatic test requirements for aboveground storage tanks.
- Prepare for the API 653 certification exam by reviewing sample questions , practicing with a practice test , and discussing exam topics and strategies .

- Cathodic protection methods
- Determination of need for lining
- Surface preparation and application
- Damage mechanisms
Day 4 : ASME V
- Code organization and general requirements .
- Basics of RT , MT , PT and UT
Day 5 : ASME IX and API 577
- Purpose and organization and general requirements
- PQR , WPS , WQT
- Destructive Testing (DT)
- Welding inspection and processes
- Metallurgy
